Our Lord Jesus Christ Fulfilled the Law:
The Foundation of Salvation by Grace
in the Church Age
✨ Christ Fulfilled the Law - The Gateway to Grace
The Gospel is far more than a story of sacrifice; it is God's triumphant declaration that Jesus Christ fulfilled every prophecy and requirement of the Law, opening the way to salvation by grace.
From the shadows of ancient sacrifices to the promises of the prophets, all Scripture pointed to Jesus Christ. His perfect obedience, His death, burial, and resurrection declared in the Gospel is the culmination of God's redemptive plan, revealing that every sacrifice, prophecy, and requirement of the Law found its fulfilment in Jesus Christ.
In this Church Age, salvation stands as a free gift, received not by works of the Law, but by faith in Christ's finished work.
✝️ 1. Christ Fulfilled the Sacrificial System
The Law revealed God's holiness and humanity's sinfulness. Sacrifices, offerings, and priestly rituals taught Israel that sin demanded atonement. Yet Hebrews reminds us: "It is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins" (Hebrews 10:4).
These sacrifices were shadows pointing to Christ. Unlike the priests who offered sacrifices repeatedly, Jesus offered Himself once for all: "But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God" (Hebrews 10:12):
- The Passover lamb foreshadowed Christ's blood that delivers from judgment (Exodus 12; 1 Corinthians 5:7).
- The Day of Atonement pointed to His once-for-all offering that secures eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:12).
- The priesthood anticipated His role as our great High Priest who intercedes forever (Hebrews 7:25).
Christ is not another sacrifice within the system; He is the fulfillment of the system itself. His sacrifice was not a continuation of the old system but its completion. Christ did not merely fulfil the sacrifices of the Law. He also fulfilled the prophetic promises that foretold His suffering, death, and resurrection. In Him, the shadows gave way to reality, and the once-for-all offering secured eternal redemption.
✝️ 2. Christ Fulfilled Prophecy Through His Suffering and Resurrection
Isaiah 53 foretold the suffering Servant: “He was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities” (Isaiah 53:5). Centuries later, Jesus bore that role, becoming the Lamb led to slaughter (see Isaiah 53:7).
The New Testament repeatedly emphasizes that His death and resurrection were “according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3–4). Jesus Himself explained after His resurrection: “All things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me” (Luke 24:44).
- His death satisfied God’s justice (Romans 3:25–26).
- His burial confirmed the reality of His sacrifice (1 Corinthians 15:4).
- His resurrection vindicated His work and secured our justification (Romans 4:25).
The cross and resurrection together declare the promises of God have found their “Yes” in Christ (2 Corinthians 1:20). These events are living realities that demand our response. In Christ, every promise of God is fulfilled, and His victory over death calls us to walk boldly in faith and proclaim His grace. Let us rise with the risen Lord, living boldly as witnesses of His triumph in this present Church Age.
✝️ 3. How Christ's Fulfillment Opened the Way of Grace
The fulfilment of prophecy and the Law is inseparably connected to the salvation of grace. Rather than providing a way for humanity to attain righteousness, the Law ultimately pointed to humanity's need for a Saviour. This truth becomes clear when we consider three profound realities:
- The Law revealed humanity's inability to attain righteousness by its own efforts (Romans 3:20).
- Christ's perfect obedience and sacrificial death fully satisfied the righteous demands of God's justice (Romans 3:25–26).
- Because Christ fulfilled the Law on our behalf, salvation is now received as God's gracious gift through faith rather than earned by human works: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8).
Salvation by grace rests entirely upon Christ's fulfilment of the Law. What the Law could reveal but never remedy, Christ fully accomplished through His atoning work. As a result, righteousness and eternal life are received not through human effort, but through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. This is the glorious message of the Gospel in the Church Age: salvation is by grace, through faith in what Jesus did for you on the cross: His blood atonement sacrifice to pay the penalty of your sins.
🔔 Good News Conclusion: Trusting Christ and Proclaiming His Grace
From the sacrifices of the Law to the promises of the prophets, every part of Scripture points to Jesus Christ. He fulfilled every requirement that humanity could not satisfy, bore the penalty of sin through His death, and secured victory through His resurrection. Because of His finished work, salvation is offered as a free gift of grace to all who believe.
This is the glorious message of the Gospel in the Church Age: we are not saved by what we do for Christ, but by what Christ has already done for us. Therefore, let us place our full trust in Him, rest in His finished work, and boldly proclaim this Good News while the door of grace remains open.
